Conrad - 24 / Ethonomist
Conrad was born in former East Germany but he’s been living in Berlin for
almost all his life. He is a researcher in ethonomics, a discipline on the edge
between ethics and economics: his research revolves around how to build
businesses that are good for the world as well as profitable.
Everyday he deals with urban revitalization, sustainable agriculture, green
IT and alternative energy. Some might think he’s a geek but nothing could
be further from the truth. As soon as he can he leaves his desk and sits in a
park to relax and play guitar with a group of friends.

“Have you ever finished a Sudoku game? You get this feeling of fulfillment,
as if you had eventually turned into simple something that was originally very
complicated. I believe that good results are more important than good intentions:
that’s why I got into ethonomics. We live in a very complicated world: the planet
is warming up, the population is growing and the financial systems are suffering.
The only solution is taking everything down to its basics once again.
I think Berlin is a good laboratory for new solutions. You can feel a good vibe all
around and the common wish to change things.
Everybody here wants to enjoy a simpler life, together.”


LUKAS - 18 / Graffiti Artist
Lukas is a Berlin based student and graffiti artist.
When he’s not at school he wanders about the streets of Berlin writing on
the walls. His peculiarity as a writer is that he still scratches the stone, an
ancient technique from which graffiti originated thousands of years ago.
For performing this kind of art you don’t need spray nor paint, it requires
only talent and a lot of patience.
Simple, peaceful, beautiful. That’s the way Lukas sees graffiti art.

There are some legal walls here in Berlin, places in which it is allowed to do
graffiti. When I start scratching the wall, I feel like I had my own canvas in front
of me. It feels good. Sometimes while I am there I meet some of the legends of the
Berlin’s graffiti scene. They look at my work, give me a couple of tips and suddenly
everything becomes clear in my mind about how I should continue the piece.
I could not live without graffiti. It’s the simplest way I know to express myself.”
